Mahima Home, India

On Wednesday, 3 November 2010, there was celebration and rejoicing in Mahima, as one of our girls, Serena (name changed to protect victim’s identity), was repatriated back to her home country of Nepal after over a year of separation from her parents. Serena had been trafficked from her village in Nepal to the brothels of Kolkata, where she was forced to work as a child prostitute at 14 years old. Upon her rescue she was taken to the Mahima After Care Home where she was provided with a home, food, clothes, medical care, education, specialized therapy and trauma counseling programs and loving care from the dedicated staff. While at the Mahima home she learned how to read and write. Through the program Serena has found strength to go on and hope for a new future. She said she will never forget how Mahima has given her a new identity.
